Use
Varifocal lenses blend gradually from your distance prescription through intermediate to your reading prescription as you look down through the lenses. You will need a set of values for distance and a "Near Add" value for reading on your prescription.
The Order Process:
- 1. Pick a frame, select a varifocal lens, and checkout.
- 2. Take a varifocal photo as instructed on our guide page .
- 3. Email us the photo.
- 4. We will calculate the fitting measurements and ship your new glasses.
Distance Type
Bifocal Type
The D28 is our standard bifocal option. These are distance lenses with a 28mm wide reading segment which looks like a letter "D" on its side. The top of the segment is set at standard 3mm to 4mm below the horizontal centre line of the frame.
Round 28 Bifocal lenses are a distance lens with a 28mm round reading segment. As the lens is cut away to fit the frame this gives the appearance of a "Half Moon" or "Semi Circle" shape.
The top of the reading segment is set at 3mm to 4mm below the centre line of the frame. The Round 28 is only available from Spex4less in a standard 1.5 index and is not available in Transitions, Polarized or Drivewear. However, they can be tinted as sunglasses or ordered with an Anti- Reflective coating.

Varilux Comfort Max
Since its initial launch in 1993, Varilux Comfort has firmly established itself as the benchmark for the progressive lens market.
In order to ensure that the changing habits and developments that take place in people's lives are catered for, Varilux Comfort has been redesigned and optimised to take new visual requirements into account.
The Total Comfort System initiative has enabled the development of a lens that meets the requirements of wearers working and living in today's demanding environment. By using the very latest technologies, Essilor Research & Development are able to determine the exact behaviours of presbyopes over long periods of time.
Varilux Comfort New Edition lenses are manufactured using Digital Surfacing to ensure that the total Comfort System is properly applied. The calculation og the design has been optimised and the manufacturing process is used to adapt the lens design precisely and optimise it for each individual wearer's prescription.

Varilux Physio 3.0
Based on Physiological studies, Varilux Physio 3.0 respects specific eye requirements in every gaze direction and innovates in the three zones of the lens: distance, intermediate and near.
Varilux Physio 3.0 delivers High-Resolution Vision, even in low-lighting conditions, through groundbreaking innovations.
It is design innovation which maps pupil size whilst utilising the latest wavefront technology.
â– Coma control to reduce higher-order aberrations
â– Axis control to keep the axis of unwanted astigmatism vertical in order to meet the eye preference
â– Power control to extend vertically the zone of stabilised near power
In addition to analysing the entire beam of light, the lens calculation now integrates every possible pupil diameter.
Point by Point twinning
This is a process innovation for calculating and manufacturing the lens front and back surfaces. This ensures the same level of performance regardless of the prescription.
Benefits
Varilux Physio 3.0 lenses will provide wearers with superior visual sharpness, wider fields of vision and greater visual and postural comfort. High Resolution Vision will also be maintained whatever the situation and the lighting conditions.

The Varilux XR series represents a significant advancement in varifocal lens technology, offering users an unprecedented range of vision. Unlike traditional varifocals, the XR series is engineered to extend the field of clear vision, dramatically reducing the need for head movement when focusing on objects at varying distances. This feature makes them particularly effective for activities requiring frequent focus adjustments, like driving or using digital devices. Additionally, the Varilux XR lenses are designed to reduce distortions common in peripheral vision with standard varifocals, providing a more natural visual experience. Their cutting-edge design ensures that users enjoy sharper and more comfortable vision, making them a superior choice for those seeking the best in visual acuity and comfort.

Photochromic Options
Photochromic
Photochromic Grey
Photochromic lenses are clear lenses indoors but react to UV (Sunlight) and turn in to sunglasses. The more UV they receive the darker they go offering you just the right amount of protection for various light conditions.
Photochromic lenses tend not to work well behind a car windscreen as the windscreen itself filters out most of the UV which is required for the lens to react. However, see Transitions XTRActive lenses for lenses that react better behind a car windscreen.
When choosing Photochromic lenses there is no need to select an additional UV coating as full UV protection is already built in to the lens.

Polarisation
Coatings
The purpose of an anti-reflective coating is to help eliminate annoying reflections on your lenses. The coating, also known as AR or anti-glare, offers a number of benefits for the user—such as reducing glare when working in front of a computer or driving at night. It also includes UV protection, safeguarding your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays. Additionally, it enhances the appearance of your lenses by eliminating reflections, making them look nearly invisible when applied to clear lenses. This allows others to see your eyes and facial expressions more clearly, helping you look your best in all lighting conditions (notice how glasses-wearers on TV have crystal-clear, reflection-free lenses). Please note: The MAR coating is only applied to the inner surface of sunglass lenses.
Inner surface anti-reflective (AR) coatings on sunglasses are designed to minimize reflections from the back surface of the lens, enhancing clarity and comfort for the wearer. These thin-film coatings, comprised of multiple layers of metal oxides, interfere with reflected light, causing the waves to cancel each other out.
While primarily aimed at improving visual comfort by reducing light that might reflect into the wearer's eyes, modern AR coatings are also more durable. When combined with scratch-resistant properties, they offer extended longevity. Proper care, such as cleaning with a lens solution and microfiber cloth, ensures their lasting effectiveness.
For true 'premium seekers', Crizal Sapphire continues to deliver market-leading performance across all key vision criteria. It remains supremely easy to clean, is as scratch resistant as AR coated glass and boasts unparalleled hydrophobic performance
Essilor is the first manufacturer in the UK to offer a guarantee against scratches on AR coated lenses. Crizal Sapphire UV lenses come with a special two year guarantee which covers scratching and manufacturing defects.
Hydrophobic Coating
Our hydrophobic coating employs advanced nanotechnology to repel water, ensuring your lenses remain clear in challenging conditions. Water droplets bead up and effortlessly roll off, preventing smears or streaks. Moreover, this coating simplifies lens cleaning, resisting smudges, dirt, and fingerprints. Experience an unobstructed view and minimal maintenance with our hydrophobic solution.
Our Standard uncoated lenses are our basic lens coating option. They don't have any additional coatings on the surface, which means they may be more prone to scratches and glare. However, they can still correct your vision and provide clear sight. If you're looking for a budget-friendly choice, standard uncoated lenses may be a good option for you.
ZEISS DuraVision
ZEISS’ range of DuraVision coatings help to protect your glasses with better damage and dirt resistance. They don’t compromise on clarity and even offer anti-reflective properties too, helping to reduce eye strain.
Satin Aktiv Coating
An anti-reflective coating that allows minimal entry of specific light waves creating the best sensitivity and sharpest vision during night and day.
Helps to deflect UV rays and reduce the blinding effect caused by night glares and direct sunlight.
